Most people don’t know, but Boom Boom has a rare thyroid eye condition from Graves’ disease – an autoimmune condition that causes over activity of the thyroid known as hyperthyroidism. Her eye surgeon, Dr. Brian Campolattaro MD, is in charge of Pediatric Ophthalmology for the Volunteer Health Program and inspired Boom Boom to travel to the Dominican Republic on March 8-12 to help raise awareness and money for eye surgeries for children.
Boom Boom donated $3,000 to cover 30 surgeries for children and will be onsite to help in any way she can. “This is something that is so close to my heart because of my personal experience physically and emotionally. Lack of vision can take a toll on your self-esteem and confidence, and in some extreme cases be extremely debilitating.
I’ve committed my whole life to eyes and making people feel better about themselves, but I’m no doctor, and this is a chance for me to help change lives for the bigger bolder and better!” says Boom Boom. Boom Boom’s mission can be tracked via https://www.facebook.com/boomboombrowbar, look for updates and meet the children. Consumers can show support by “liking” the page and sending encouraging comments to share with the children and/or donating to www.volunteerhealthprogram.org.
